“Feel healthy and full of energy through fasting!”

The Meaning of Fasting

Fasting is defined as the voluntary renunciation of solid foods for a limited time.

Fasting has a tradition that goes back thousands of years and is a natural rhythm in humans and animals that has been forgotten by many people today. However, each of us has fasting experience, albeit perhaps unconsciously, because even our night’s sleep is already a fast. There is a reason why the English-speaking countries call their morning meal breakfast, breaking the fast. But even during illness we fast. By fasting during an illness we give our body the opportunity to concentrate on the most important thing, namely fighting off the fever or other symptoms. All other functions are kept to a minimum to put all energy into this task.

My Fasting Offers

Buchinger/Lützner Fasting

Fasting after Buchinger goes back to Otto Buchinger. He developed the so-called therapeutic fasting and founded fasting clinics in Germany, which are still in existence today (for example in Bad Pyrmont). He saw healing holistically and combined fasting with changes in the subsequent diet, movement as well as on the mental and spiritual level. The fasting clinics with therapeutic fasting are aimed at persons with existing pre-conditions that require medication and who are therefore only allowed to fast under medical supervision.

In addition, Hellmut Lützner developed fasting for the healthy, which, as the name already implies, is intended for people who deem themselves healthy and do not take medication that requires regular checking. It is for people who would like to take part in a fasting on their own responsibility under the guidance of a fasting course leader but without a medical doctor, as part of a healthy lifestyle and preventive measure as well as a stimulus for changing unfavourable lifestyle habits. This is the option I offer.

Buchinger/Lützner Fasting at home
The course is ideal for those who want to fast in their own home, but do not want to do so without the professional guidance by a fasting course leader and the support of a group. This can be done while working or while taking time off work. Our meetings during fasting take place on a daily basis.

The foundation of fasting is the conscious decision to voluntarily abstain from eating solid foods for a certain period of time. The food during fasting days consists only of liquids. These supplements ensure the intake of a small amount of carbohydrates for brain energy, as well as the supply with sufficient vitamins and minerals. Nevertheless, the body comes into the so-called fasting metabolism, i.e. feeding from inside the body.

My fasting courses typically consist of at least 1 prep day, 5 full fasting days and at least 2 build-up days to ease back into the eating metabolism.

According to the holistic approach of Otto Buchinger fasting includes all 3 dimensions of body – mind – soul. Therefore, in addition to the daily fasting conversations, there are also alternating exercise and relaxation exercises on offer for the group during these days.

The central element is the promotion of excretion via the gut, kidneys, liver, lungs and skin. Most important for this is a sufficient amount of fluids. Supportive measures help on all 3 levels.

During fasting the body has the opportunity for regeneration and renewal and can eliminate anything old and redundant.

This is included in the course:
• Professional fasting accompaniment by your fasting course leader
• Support in a group of like-minded people
• Regular meetings during fasting days
• Exercise and relaxation as supportive measures
• Organic teas and juices
• Time for yourself
• Nutritional advice for healthy eating after the fasting course
• Fasting booklet to prepare for and support your fasting week

Details about the fasting week and the preparations as well as the fasting booklet for each participant will be given during an information evening taking place before the fasting week begins.

Would you prefer personalized and individual support or are you not so flexible in terms of time?

I would be happy to accompany you individually through a fasting week with a personal introduction and subsequent telephone support (or Skype) or personal meetings.

Of course you also get a fasting booklet with all the information you need for your fasting experience.

Alkaline Fasting
The alkaline fasting is actually more of a reduction diet or alkaline reset cleanse than fasting, since the body doesn’t go into a fasting metabolism. Therefore, alkaline fasting is ideal for people who want to start fasting, but are reluctant to only consume liquids, but also for people who take controlled medication or the elderly or very slim people.

In contrast to the Buchinger fasting, the alkaline fasting is an active cleansing of the body from the outside by feeding it alkaline foods.

Most people these days are acidic. There are many different reasons for this: on the one hand acids are produced in our body by internal processes during the metabolic processes (uric acid, carbon dioxide, etc.), but also through our lifestyle, such as stress, lack of sleep, stimulants such as alcohol and sugar, an acid-forming diet with many protein-rich foods (meat, sausage, cheese), white flour products etc., but also by illnesses, medications and environmental influences.

Normally the body has natural mechanisms to deal with these acids, because the body’s goal is always a balance between alkalinity and acidity. Acids and alkalines must always be considered together. To balance the acids in the body, our organism needs alkalines and vice versa. It gets these through an alkaline diet, but also, as with the acids, through lifestyle: enough sleep, a balance between tension and relaxation, exercise, drinking of a lot of still water …

If the body does not have enough alkalines to balance the acids and then excrete them, it pushes them into areas of the body that inhibit the rest of the organism the least: in the connective tissue, but also in the joints and muscles. In this buffer system, the acids are meant to be stored temporarily. The problem is that nowadays, this is often not a temporary storage but a permanent storage for the acids, because the body is acidic far too often. Then at some point, the problems that almost all of us know, such as joint pain, back pain, mobility disorders, etc. start. However, these are not the only health effects.

Women are usually more affected than men, especially during and after menopause.

Naturopathy sees the latent (= permanent) acidity of the body as the underlying root cause of all our lifestyle diseases.

One way to counteract this latent acidity is an alkaline fasting cleanse. We rid the body of too much acidity by supplying it with large amounts of alkaline foods. An alkaline fasting cleanse also includes body – mind – soul.

Another central element in the alkaline fasting cleanse is the promotion of the excretion through the gut, kidneys, liver, lungs and skin. Supportive measures help on all 3 levels.

The food during the fasting days consists mainly of ripe vegetables and fruits as well as herbs and sprouts and lots of water and herbal teas.

There are lists of alkaline foods, but in general it can be said that plant foods are the main source. The description acidic or alkaline has nothing to do with the taste, but how a food is metabolized in the body.

This is included in the course:
• Professional fasting accompaniment by your fasting course leader
• Support in a group of like-minded people
• Regular meetings during fasting days

Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting is very popular at the moment and in fact this type of fasting can, according to research, for example from Prof. Michalsen at Immanuel Hospital in Berlin, have health-promoting effects on our body.

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where people cycle between defined periods of eating and fasting. There are many different options to do this. It is important not to see this type of fasting as a sacrifice, but as a simple change in eating habits, because intermittent fasting is indeed easy to implement, trainable and suitable for everyday use, no matter which option you choose. Depending on lifestyle, circumstances, habits, goals and preferences the patterns will vary from person to person.

Frequent variations are the 16:8 intermittent fasting, which is eating within an 8 hour window and fasting for 16 hours, and 5:2 fasting, whereby food is eaten on 5 days and fasting takes place on 2 non-consecutive days.

Intermittent fasting can be started beautifully after a Buchinger fast or an alkaline reset cleanse as part of a change in diet.

Intermittent fasting has positive effects on:
• Fat metabolism
• Weight Loss
• Metabolic processes such as insulin secretion
• Cardiovascular risk factors

Please contact me if you would like to work with me in finding your individual intermittent fasting options.

Fasting Consultation

Would you like to learn more about fasting in a personal conversation and find out which model suits you best? I offer a walk with advice session, where we discuss your questions and go through the different models of fasting.

In case of doubt, please always talk to your GP, if you can participate in the different fasting models and what effects this might have on your medication.
